SEGA Corporation announces the first official global tournament " Virtua Fighter Open Championship " featuring Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. The first prize is $100,000! The prize money is a whopping $100,000! The era of Virtua Fighter will return to the modern e-sports scene.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. ", released on Steam on January 28, 2025 (Tuesday), is a title based on "Virtua Fighter esports" from the original 3D fighting game series Virtua Fighter. The series has finally hit the e-sports scene! The series' first official global tournament "VIRTUA FIGHTER Open Championship" will be held.

The "VIRTUA FIGHTER Open Championship" will be held in four regions: North America, Europe, Japan, and Asia (excluding Japan), and the winners of each qualifying round will be awarded the right to participate in the Grand Final. The prize money for the Grand Final is $100,000 (approx. 15 million yen)! The scale of the event as an e-sports tournament is huge, but above all, the fact that it is being held under the "Virtua Fighter" title must have surprised fans of the series as much as the past.

It was also announced that the North American qualifying tournament will be held during " COMBO BREAKER 2025 " from May 23 (Fri.) to 25 (Sun.), 2025. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O." has also been selected for the "EVO 2025" extended tournament from Friday, August 1 to Sunday, August 3, 2025 local time. The world's best fighting gamers and e-sports teams are likely to enter the tournament in earnest.
