"The Thousand-Year Tale of Adventurer Elliot" is Now Available! The First All-New Action RPG in Square Enix's HD-2D Series

Square Enix released *The Thousand-Year Tale of Adventurer Elliot* on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The Steam version was released on Friday, June 19.
This title is the first completely original action RPG in the “HD-2D” series.

" The Thousand-Year Tale of Adventurer Elliot " is the first completely new action RPG in the "HD-2D" series, which blends pixel art with 3DCG.
The game follows the adventurer " Elliot " as he embarks on an epic adventure across four eras alongside his partner, the fairy " Fay."
By combining Elliot’s simple yet challenging actions with the support actions of the fairy Fay, players will carve a path through uncharted lands and unravel the mysteries of the world.

In addition to single-player mode, this game supports local two-player co-op.
The second player controls Faye and can support Elliot with magic and other abilities, allowing both players to work together to progress through the adventure.

A Journey Through Four Eras in “Filebirdia”

The setting is “Filevirdia,” a world overrun by monsters and barbarian tribes.
Adventurer Elliot and his partner, the fairy Fay, discover the “Gate of Time”—which connects the past and the present—at the very depths of an ancient ruin.
They set out on a journey to confront a destiny spanning a thousand years, traveling through four different eras.

• The Age of Protection: The present day in which Elliot and his companions live, an era in which Princess Hulia’s protective magic maintains a safe nation
• The Age of Reconstruction: An era preceding the Age of Protection, when the protective magic did not yet exist, and people gathered in a village called “Little Hope,” teetering on the brink of extinction
• The Age of Magic: An era even further in the past than the Age of Protection, when humanity reached the height of its prosperity through technology powered by magic
• The Era of Emergence: The oldest era in which Elliot and his companions embark on their adventures; it marks a major turning point for humanity due to the “Mew Clan,” who wield powerful magic.

Deep and Strategic Combat with Diverse Weapons

During your journey, in addition to actions like “jumping,” “swimming,” and “diving underwater”...

• Sword
• Bow
• Boomerang
• Hammer
• Spear
• Chain sickle
• Bomb

You’ll progress through combat by switching between 7 types of weapons and a shield.

If you pull off a " Just Guard " in time with an enemy's attack, you can turn it into a great opportunity for a counterattack.

Support from the fairy Faye is the key to victory

Fairy Fay’s magic and support actions are also crucial to clearing the stage.

• "Sissou," which speeds up Elliot
• "Warp," which instantly teleports Elliot to Faye's location
• "Chakka," which envelops Faye in flames
• "Q-In," which allows Faye to pull items and enemies toward her
• "Copy": Faye mimics Elliot's movements

These five spells provide support.
Even if Elliot’s HP drops to 0 and he falls, he can be revived using Faye’s magic.

Customize weapons with “Magic Stones”

By equipping “Magic Stones” —crafted from “Magic Stone Shards” collected during your adventures— you can grant various effects to your weapons.
In addition to boosting stats, you can freely customize each weapon; for example, you can set it to unleash a bolt of lightning when you activate a special move, dealing massive damage to enemies in a wide area.

The Digital Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition are also now available
