2021 League of Legends World Championship Tournament Format
There are three stages: "Play-in", "Group", and "Knockout". The top two teams from each group will advance to the group stage.
The group stage will consist of four groups of 16 teams, including 12 teams directly from China, Korea, Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia, as well as four teams that have not yet played in the group stage.
The play-in stage and group stage groupings were recently held on September 22nd on this channel.
The play-in stage will be held twice, while the group stage will be held only once.
Play-in stage: In round 1, the 10 teams will be divided into two groups, playing in a tournament format, with each match progressing in Bo1.
The first place in each group will advance to the group stage, while the other teams ranked 2-4 will advance to the Play-in: Round 2, where the lowest ranked team in each group will be eliminated on the spot.
In the Play-in Stage: Round 2, the teams will play in a tournament format as well, with each match progressing in Bo5.
The second-placed team will be seeded and the remaining third- and fourth-placed teams will play first, with the winning team from that group playing the second-placed team. The team that loses this match will be eliminated. Finally, four teams will advance to the group tournament: the two teams that win Round 1 and the two teams that win Round 2.
The group stage will be played in a round-robin format, with the top two teams from each match Bo1 and each group advancing to the knockout stage.
The matches can also be viewed on Twitch, YouTube, and other distribution sites. There will also be language-specific streaming, so if you are interested in other languages, please check them out as well.
See you at the GLHF.
