Tokyo Game Show 2021 Online " (TGS2021 Online) was held from September 30 (Thursday) to October 3 (Sunday), 2021.
Koei Tecmo Games also exhibited at the event, and the online distribution of the " TGS2021 Koei Tecmo Special Program " attracted a lot of attention with the production announcement of " Sophie's Atelier 2: The Alchemist of Mysterious Dreams ".
In the offline venue, there were test stands for three upcoming titles: " Shin-Sangoku Musou 8 Empires," " BLUE REFLECTION TIE/TEI," and " Zero: Nurekaven no Miko.
This time, I had the chance to try "Zero: Nurera no Miko," a remastered version of the game released for Wii U in 2014, which will finally be released on the 28th of this month.
Play the reborn "Zero: Wet Crow Priestess" on PS5
As usual, the author, who tends to avoid horror games, has not played the original "Zero: Wet Crow Priestess.
However, the "ZERO" series has a long history, with the 20th anniversary of the first game. I also came into contact with the series through " Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse" through live-play videos on Nico Nico Douga during its heyday, and I am familiar with the series, albeit indirectly.
That's why I was scared even before I started playing! I wonder if I will be able to endure the experience of the "Zero" series, a Japanese-style horror adventure in which the author must get to the bottom of the story while filming the spirits with a camera in full bloom.
The remastered version of " Zero: Wet Crow Priestess " will be compatible with Switch, PS5, PS4, XSX|S, XOne, and Steam, making it a multi-platform title for home consoles and PC.
The series has been continuously released for Nintendo hardware, but it has been 16 years since "Zero: The Tattoo" was released for the PS platform in 2005. This may have been the reason for the PS5 console, where visitors had the chance to try out the game and experience the improved graphics.
This is a Japanese-style horror game with a psychological terror that is not limited to any medium. In the " Zero: Nurekaven no Miko " test play, the dark atmosphere of a dark flooded house was expressed even more vividly thanks to the remastering and PS5 specs.
I had had my fill of the horror of the "Zero" series just from the delivery alone. I was too scared to dash from start to finish, and my stomach was rather upset by the player's slow movement speed. With the help of the time limit and the noise coming through my headphones, I managed to clear the tutorial stage.
This work is also full of systems that incite fear through manipulation, such as the production of taking time to reach for items (random spirits grab your hand) and the need to be aware of the shaking of both the character and player's hands in order to accurately capture large images of the attacking spirits in battle, which makes the game a frighteningly difficult struggle. The design is still intact.
I realized that the fear of having to advance by oneself, which is unique to horror games, matches the atmosphere of this game very, very well.
Another attraction of the "Zero" series, the remastered beautiful girl is not to be overlooked!
The outstanding depiction of beautiful girls, a characteristic of this series, is also a point of concern.
The character expressions in " ZERO: Nurekasuno Miko ", which shows the addition of know-how from the "DEAD OR ALIVE" series and the Musou series to the popular elements from the TECMO era, are still present in the remastered version.
In the horror atmosphere, only a beautiful girl can heal the soul, and the mysteriousness and tension of the performance is heightened.
The traditional dress-up function is also enhanced. Swimsuits and cosplay-style outfits are also available, clearly designed to float the atmosphere, and are effective as an escape route when you want to change your mood or when you just can't stand the horror.
Unfortunately, I was not able to check out the water-wetting effects, which were highly acclaimed even before the remastering, because I did not have the mental capacity to do so, but the overall quality of the game seems promising.
The game is ready for release, so let's look forward to it!
The gorgeousness of the titles on display, and the overall gorgeousness of the offline venue, were all characteristic of Koei Tecmo Games.
Incidentally, we received a clear file with a key visual of " Zero: Wet Crow Priestess " as well as a deformed acrylic keychain of Kou Shibusawa as a souvenir of our visit to the booth.
Congratulations to Shibusawa Ko on his 40th anniversary and on winning the Japan Game Awards 2021 Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Prize!
The game is scheduled for release on October 28, 2021. Pre-orders for the package version on various e-commerce sites, as well as the DL version on Steam, My Nintendo Store, and PlayStation Store, have already begun.
