Q. How do fans react now that you’ve played Daigo for so long?
Satoshi Tokushige: How do they react?
Well, I’m something greeted by people who are fans of the game. And even foreigners. I’m always shocked when foreigners come up to me.

When I was on Yoi-Don! [trans. “On Your Mark”], I was in my 20s. I’d just hit the latter half of my 20s. Now, I’s an old geezer in his late 40s. This series is, what, about two-decades old? 10 years… and this doesn’t just apply to games, but also films and TV shows, a decade is more than enough to make a great series.
20 years? A complete master piece. It’s a gargantuan feat!
Q. What are some of Daigo Dojima’s highlight in the game?
Satoshi Tokushige: That’s a good question.
You get to witness another layer to Daigo, and seen how far he’ll go for his men and how he leads them. Despite playing him for such a long time, I’d never seen this side of him before. He’s always idolizing Kiryu and relying on his strength to support the Tojo Clan. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him just step up and take command.
Exploring this side of his character was refreshing.
I honestly didn’t expect to have such an emotional scene today, I was blown away. It really tugged at my heartstrings.
Satoshi Tokushige: I suppose it’s his sincerity.
I recorded a variety of his lines today. And struck me was his emphasis on family. And his conviction. He’s the epitome of unwavering belief. I guess that’s also why he puts so much on Kiryu’s shoulders.

Now that you mention it, I remember his debut scene. Wearing a down jacket, or something.
There’s a scene where Mine reminds him that he was upstanding guy until recently. And I thought, “Yeah, he’s right!” And the memories came flooding back.
Satoshi Tokushige: Dear fans, the series is officially 20. Thank you. I’d call this a gargantuan feat. I’m glad we’ve come this far.
