At the "Tokyo Game Show 2023 " (TGS2023) held from September 21 (Thu.), 2023, we had the chance to experience the new RPG " BREAKERS: UNLOCK THE WORLD " from VIC GAME STUDIOS Co, Here is a report on the trial play.
BREAKERS : UNLOCK THE WORLD" Overview
BREAKERS: UNLOCK THE WORLD" is a completely new original title developed by VIC GAME STUDIOS, a company established in Korea. The game is available on both PC and smartphones, and is set in a toon-rendered, cartoon-like world with expressive characters and adventures. I have to admit that I have not been able to find out much about the game until later. In fact, I had little prior information about the title "BREAKERS : UNLOCK THE WORLD" until today, and only learned about it when I found VIC GAME STUDIO's booth on the day of the event.
What attracted me to this title, which was completely new to me, was the official gameplay trailer shown in the booth.
Although it was only about a minute long, it gave us a glimpse of the high level of completion of this "anime-style action RPG" title. The beautiful scenery is reminiscent of "Genshin Impact" and "Collapse: Star Rail," and the characters are rich in personality, with a wide range of expressions from comical to powerful and vicious. As someone who enjoys playing anime-style titles such as "Genshin Impact" and "Blue Protocoll," I was very interested in this game. What kind of game is it? The best way to find out is to actually experience it for yourself. I got in line to try out the game...
While waiting in line, I was excited to see a video of the game in action.
Now, it's time to play the actual game!
Finally, it was my turn. The staff allowed me to take pictures of the game, with the limitation that I could only take pictures of the PC frame. When the game play begins, the story progresses from the perspective of the boy character "Kite," who seems to be the main character. While immersed in the immersive feeling of being in an anime, the characters move in a lively and comical manner, such as Kite's encounter with Liz, a girl who seems to be looking for someone, and Kite getting slapped by a woman who accidentally UNLOCKED her skirt.
The relatively unimportant conversation scenes seem to proceed in an adventure style.
Liz" is the first girl to join the game. The "5 stars" that indicate rarity are displayed along with a fast-paced movie. Apparently, this is how the game is played, with the player acquiring the highest rarity character and switching between them.
The controls are simple, but the emphasis is on exhilaration.
After viewing a series of stories, the action part of the game begins. In addition to movement, characters can take four types of actions: normal attacks, evasion, skills, and special moves. The player switches between characters in the party and uses these four types of actions in battle. The basic system seems to be similar to that of "Genshin Impact.
Character switching is very dynamic! Characters quickly appear on the screen with cut-ins. Switching between characters is done at a comfortable tempo.
The presentation of special move skills was as powerful as the expectations raised by the trailer movie we had originally seen. The tempo is also good, making it easy to unleash them during battle.
As mentioned earlier, the controls are very similar to those of "Genshin Impact," and if you have already played the previous title, you will be able to use the game in a familiar way. From this point on, we will delve into the game system unique to this title.
It doesn't end with just punching. You have to pay attention to the compatibility of your enemies and their movements as you move around.
In addition to the HP gauge, this title has a kind of enemy down gauge.
The character with this title seems to have characteristics such as "strong against shields" or "strong against magic," which makes it easier to take down the corresponding enemy. It seems that the game is played by sending out allies with favorable attributes against the corresponding enemy, taking them down, and then switching to a character with high DPS to deal damage.
The attacks of strong enemies have clear warning signs, which can be avoided to reduce the number of bullets.
These systems create a sense of balance between attack and defense, and simply rushing into the enemy in the dark can result in a large number of bullets, which can damage allies who have the advantage over the enemy. The style of the game, in which players avoid the enemy while launching allies who are compatible with the enemy to take them down and use characters with high DPS to cut down their HP, is an interesting style not found in "Genshin Impact".
An anime-style RPG to watch out for in the future!
The anime-style characters are drawn with a very attractive touch, and the game's tempo is pleasant and responsive, allowing players to explore the beautiful world of "BREAKERS: UNLOCK THE WORLD. On the other hand, there is still room for further development in terms of gameplay and strategy. We felt that the game system that forms the foundation of the game is well developed, so we look forward to seeing how the game will expand its gameplay in the future. The release date for "BREAKERS : UNLOCK THE WORLD" is still undecided and information is scarce, so we will keep an eye on the game's future developments.
