Normally, Discord determines whether an account is harmful by cross-referencing it with known harmful content.
However, since this similarity check alone can sometimes result in false positives, staff always conducted a manual review before taking any action, such as blocking an account.
During the review process, uploads were temporarily suspended rather than the account being suspended.

However, Discord explained that in this instance, despite staff verifying that an account was not problematic, a subsequent bug caused the account to be suspended, leading to the blocking of multiple accounts.
Approximately 8,200 accounts were affected between May and the third week of June 2026, and approximately 200 accounts were blocked due to the same bug between the fourth week of June and Sunday, July 5.

Apology and Measures to Prevent Recurrence

Discord expressed its apology to affected accounts and concerned users, stating, “If your account was blocked, this explanation likely won’t be enough to satisfy you.”
The company noted that all blocked accounts have now been restored.
