In the Nintendo Switch 2 software Mario Kart World, the in-game event 「オンラインチャレンジ 新年開幕カップ」 ("Online Challenge: New Year Opening Cup"), which players can participate in online, has been confirmed.
The event period is Monday, January 12, 2026, from 3:00 PM JST to 5:00 PM JST.
(NOTE: This event is for residents of Japan.)

In Mario Kart World, the "Online Challenge: New Year Opening Cup" will be held for two hours on Monday, January 12, 2026 (Holiday), from 3:00 PM JST to 5:00 PM JST!
In this event, a 2-hour battle will be held in a 150cc race format, and players will compete for their rating at the end of the event.
The rating starts at 3000 and fluctuates based on the match results.
Try racing against many people online!
The methods to participate in the event are as follows:
- Launch the game and select "Online"
- Press the Minus Button to select "Find Events" and enter the 4-digit Event ID "3310"
- The event information will be displayed, so participate in matches during the event time shown on the screen
Additionally, if you enter the Event ID before the event period starts, it is possible to play practice matches under the same rules as the "Online Challenge: New Year Opening Cup"!
This time as well, player data for the Top 100 winners will be posted on the official website about one week after the event.
The 1st place ranking for each character will also be posted, so try challenging the event with a character you are confident in.
