Four Characters Have a Great Ring to Them!
News

In Japan, we are in the latter half of the second week since the start of the new fiscal year. For those of you who have started a new life this spring, there are likely many things you are still not used to.
You might be exhausted from work or school during the week, and then exhausted from the week's fatigue on the weekends, making this a time when you don't feel like doing anything and just want to focus on resting.
While it would be nice to have a holiday, there are no holidays until Golden Week, the long spring holiday period that starts at the end of April, which makes the month feel even longer.
It is not good to let too much fatigue and stress accumulate, so proper relaxation is necessary. And when it comes to the best thing for relaxation, it has to be games!
Of course, the blockbusters that have been released in a rush lately are great, but if you only play those and get tired, it defeats the purpose. For a quick break, retro games that can be played in a short amount of time are perfect! And speaking of retro games, it is the Famicom, or NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), which is currently in its 40th anniversary year.
Among various projects, the "Famicom National Poll," which is held every week with different themes and has become a favorite for everyone, has become a staple, and the results for Vol. 38, "What Game Comes to Mind With a Four-Character Title?" have been announced this week!

The results of the "Famicom National Poll" Vol. 38, "What Game Comes to Mind With a Four-Character Title?" have been announced, and the top 20 are being made public on the Famicom 40th Anniversary Campaign Site!
Following the previously held “What Game Comes to Mind With a Five-Character Title?” and “What Game Comes to Mind With a Three-Character Title?,” this is the next in the character count series. This time, titles with "four characters" based on various interpretations—such as Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji, numbers, and pronunciation—have ranked in.
Among them, those with four characters in pronunciation have a good ring to them, and there are many titles you want to say out loud.
In the hard-fought top 20, the one that shone in 1st place was the legendary masterpiece shooter Xevious with 17.5% of the vote! Since the 2nd place Tetris had a vote share of 8.7%, it was a landslide victory with double the score!
It is a monumental work of shooting games, not only as a masterpiece in the genre but also because of rumors like the one saying you can destroy the iron-plate-like enemy Bacula if you hit it 256 times, or how the Xevish language appearing in the game became a hot topic.
While Xevious in 1st place was a landslide, the vote shares from 2nd place onwards were extremely close, with Tetris in 2nd, Salamander in 3rd, Karateka in 4th, Door Door in 5th, and Seicross in 6th (which the author also voted for). It seems everyone had a variety of "four-character titles" they were attached to.
Among those ranked in the top 20, Xevious and Pro Wrestling can be played on Family Computer Nintendo Switch Online, and Nintendo Switch Online members can play the exclusive software Tetris 99. They can be played in a short amount of time, so please use them for a break!

The end of Vol. 38 means that Vol. 39 has begun.
Starting Thursday, April 11, 2024, voting for the 39th "Famicom National Poll" has opened! This time's theme is "What Comes to Mind for Simulation Games?"
The "Famicom National Poll" has been held with various game genres as themes before, and next time the theme is "Simulation Games."
As the name "Simulation" suggests, because "Simulation Games" is a genre where you virtually experience real-world events and activities, it is likely to cover a very broad range.
When you think about it carefully, you might find yourself torn, thinking "that's a simulation game" and "this is a simulation game too," but please cast your honest vote for the simulation game you are most attached to!
This time as well, you can vote from the "Famicom National Poll" page on the campaign site after logging into your Nintendo Account.
Rest assured that even if you forget a title, candidates will appear if you enter part of the title.
The voting period for the 39th "Famicom National Poll" is until Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 11:59 PM, and the results announcement is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2024!
The author voted for Gachapon Senshi 3: Eiyuu Senki, a strategy simulation based on SD Gundam! I also played Gachapon Senshi 2: Capsule Senki and Gachapon Senshi 4: Newtype Story, but I was most absorbed in Gachapon Senshi 3: Eiyuu Senki.
